Chickadee and Blossoms

Chickadee and Blossoms 8″ x 8″

Adding a few flowers to my bird paintings has been fun. It’s a nice opportunity to try out new colour combinations. I can’t remember the last time I used pink!

Purple Kitty

I had fun with this one. Purple is my favourite colour!

Early Bird

Robin 8″ x 8″

The early bird gets the worm. It’s true – I recently read that Robins prefer to eat worms in the morning and fruit later in the day.

Squirrel

Squirrel 8″ x 8″

There are so many squirrels in my neighbourhood that I guess it was inevitable that I would paint one eventually. Most of the squirrels around here are black or grey, but I made this one a bit more red, because it worked so well with the background colour.

Happy

Happy (8″ x 8″)

It was inevitable that I would eventually work my way around to painting a pig. I think I will have to do another one that focuses more closely on the face. There is so much expression that I would like to capture, and I’m not sure that I’ve got it here. Stay tuned.

The Blue Door

Blue Door 8″ x 8″

It was nice to paint with a limited palette. I didn’t have to make so many decisions about what colours to use, just the tones and values. I like the simplicity and it was fun to focus on the textures surrounding the cat.

Prints of this (and many others) are available on Etsy.

A Mix of Sun and Clouds

A Mix of Sun and Clouds 8″ x 8″

I decided to do a quick landscape – no cows, chickens or other animals in this one. I wanted the focus to be on the dramatic sky and huge puffy clouds.

Loon

Loon 8″ x 8″

I had fun painting this loon. Lots to work on with all of the patterns and reflections. Not sure it’s a total success, but definitely good practice.
