If I name a chicken after you (accidentally or on purpose), please don’t be offended. It doesn’t mean that you look or act or remind me of a chicken. Actually I find most of them to be quite beautiful. On the other hand, if you would like one of these chickens to have your name, please let me know!

Chickens

Chickens

Betty & Veronica 8″ x 8″

Chickens. Not a very exciting name for a painting of chickens. This naming problem isn’t going to go away, as I have a few more chicken paintings planned. I could either number them (chicken 1, chicken 2, chicken 3), which would be really boring. Or I could just give them names, which is much more fun and adds a little personality. So, let me introduce you to Betty and Veronica.

Barn at Southlands Farm 24″ x 36″

It’s unusual to see this barn without a bunch of kids out front and people wandering around. Southlands Heritage Farm is a community farm, open to the public – a great place if you need a break from the city, without leaving the city.

A horse, a chicken and a dog

Finishing off the year with these three, all for sale on Etsy.

I have really enjoyed painting animals in 2016. The chickens seem to be very popular and are really fun to paint. 2017 is the year of the Rooster, so of course I will have to include a few in my art this year.

Happy New Year!

Fall in Vancouver

Changing Seasons 8″ x 8″

It has been a very grey, rainy fall here in Vancouver. Maybe this painting will help to brighten things up a bit.

An Experiment

Pruduct-Collage_H

A while ago I added some of my artwork to Red Bubble – a site that applies artwork to various products such as mugs, clothing, stationery and throw pillows. I haven’t told anyone about it before now, because I’m really not sure how I feel about it. Does having my artwork on a mug or sofa cushion devalue the original? Or does anyone really want this stuff?

This is all a big experiment and self-promotion has never been my strength. But if I’m going to advertise, I guess this is the season to do it. So here’s my gift guide:

The Boss 8″ x 8″

I really liked my previous chicken painting, so when I shipped it off to a customer last week I had a strong urge to paint another one. Here he is!

Sunny

Sunny 24" x 18"

Sunny 24″ x 18″

This is Sunny. He’s my daughter’s best friend. I painted this for her as a birthday surprise. If it wasn’t for Isabelle’s love of horses, I don’t think I would be painting them now. The hours I spend with her and the horses are always fresh in my mind when I sit down to paint. As your kids grow, you assume that you will show them things and teach them, but it ends up being the other way around.

And here they are – my favourite girl and her favourite horse!
